Pantograph Mockups for Debbie’s Flower Chain Quilt

flower chain quilting mockups pantograph by molly kohler

I loved quilting this Flower Chain quilt for my customer Debbie. Just for fun I created some pantograph mockups that I would love to share with you. Read to the end to find out the pantograph that Debbe chose and to see pics of the finished quilt.

The quilt pattern for this quilt is from Missouri Star and can be found HERE.

First let’s talk about choosing pantographs for this quilt. The border and chain fabric is a multicolor floral with a watercolor feel to it. The flower shapes are mostly rounded and soft with some long and pointy leaf shapes.  I am looking for  pantographs with a floral feel to them for this quilt.

Petals and Pearls pantograph on Flower Chain Quilt

First up is Petals and Pearls from Sew Shabby quilting. This is a great pantograph if you want a loose quilting. It has a petal shape without being overly floral. At this scale the pantograph would create a very soft quilt. I think this pantograph would also look great scaled even smaller on this quilt. It could be scaled as small as a 3″ repeat and look great and have great texture.

This pantograph is Villa in Bloomy by Leisha Kay and Patricia Ritter for Urban Elementz. I love the meandering line of this pantograph. It uses multiple flower shapes which gives great variety. I love the repetition on the leaf too!

Tufted Diamond is one of my favorite pantographs that I have designed. It’s great if you want an uncomplicated unique texture. Longarm quilters love this pantograph because it gives and orange peel effect but it is easy to line up because the rows do not need to touch for it to look amazing.

This Scallop Fan pantograph is my personal favorite on this quilt. I love the repeating petal shape. The repeatitive lines are calming to me, yet the shape is unique and unexpeted.

If you love fancy then you will love Paisly Feather pantograph It adds a more sophisticated texture to the quilt creating an elegant feel. I like how this pantograph creates visual interest in the background.

Orange Grove is one of my best-selling pantographs. It has an orange peel feel but with a twist.  While I love this pantograph, it’s not my first choice with this quilt. It seems to fight with the design. What do you think?

Karlee Porter designed this Starlight pantograph. It’s a little geometric and a little fancy. When scaled just right it looks great on this quilt. I wouldn’t scale it any larger than this mockup.

Highlight is an adorable pantograph! I am always happy with how this design looks when quilted out. It has a structured repeat and a cutesy flower shape.

While I love this Flower Power pantograph it doesn’t work for me on this quilt. I sense a retro 70’x vibe from this pantograph which I don’t love with the shapes and fabrics of this quilt. I’m filing it away to use on a quilt with smaller prints or solids.

I finished the Flower Chain quilt using my favorite combination of white thread! The top thread is omni 3002 Natural White and I used So Fine 401 in the bobbin. I have had the best success with Omni thread in my quilt machine! I avoid switching to other thread lines because Omni runs so smoothly for me.

Villa in Bloom pantograph on flower chain quilted longarm quilting by Molly Kohler

Debbie chose Villa in Bloom for her Flower Chain quilt. I have quilted for Debbie many times and I know she often chooses a more organically structured design like Villa in Bloom. This floral pantograph is perfect for her quilt!
